How to Select Men's Cool Socks You Won't Get Tired Of

6 min read

Men's cool socks tend to remain cool for a fairly short period of time. If you're a guy who has been around the block for quite some time as far as apparel is concerned, you know this full well. In fact, you know this like the back of your hand.

"Cool," as a concept as well as a fashion statement and sentiment has the lifespan of a typical fruit fly. Put simply, they don't last all that long. The reason why this is the case is because guys, at some level or another, finally get tired of them.

Now, I don't know about you, but I don't get fed up very quickly. I tend to hang on to things. Chances are, at some level or another, you're the same. But ultimately, all of us get tired. All of us have a threshold. We're all humans.

And besides, there's a part of us that want to keep up with fashion. We don't want to get left behind as far as our appearance is concerned. Now you can see why men's cool socks don't remain cool for far too long.

With that said, by learning how to select these pieces of male apparel, you can go a long way in maximizing the value of the hard earned dollars that you spend on these items. Please pay attention to the following:

Practical Considerations for men's cool socks

The first thing that you need to do when sizing up men's cool socks to buy is to get the practical stuff out of the way. These are the everyday concerns that you keep top of mind to make sure that you are getting full value for the money that you are investing in these clothing items.

What are we talking about? Well, first of all, are they made of sturdy materials? Are these materials going to stand up to the test of time or at least stand up long enough to take the wear and tear of everyday usage? Or will these materials break apart sooner rather than later?

If you buy men's cool socks that are not made of sturdy materials, then you're just throwing money down the toilet. That's really what you're doing because the more socks you buy, the more inconvenient it becomes and you're probably going to be burning all sorts of money doing all sorts of other things. Don't start the cycle and just insist on sturdy materials.

You also have to ask yourself whether the men's cool socks that you are thinking of buying are easy to wash. Can you wash them quickly? Do they disappear quickly?

This is a big deal because if they're made of specialized synthetic materials that require special handling, they might be too fancy to be worth the bother. If you are anywhere like the average American consumer, you simply do not have the time to screw around with washing sensitive clothing, least of all men's socks.

You also have to factor in how these socks will match the rest of your wardrobe. You have to understand that your wardrobe is supposed to project a certain image of you. You're supposed to look a certain way. You're supposed to create a certain impression in the minds of people looking at you.

This is a big deal. This is real. And unfortunately, if you turn a blind eye to how well your men's socks blends with the rest of the pants, shirts, and coats that you wear, you might waste money on those items. Seriously.

If the stick out like a sore thumb, you probably are not going to use them with certain mix and match combinations. In fact, you might not use them all that often. You have these amazing looking socks, they look cool as ice, but they burned a hole through your pocket because you probably used them, at most, once per year.

You also need to factor in whether it's versatile. Are these socks good for casual, formal or business casual environments? Can you wear them in a wide range of situations? Do they fit you and make you look good in a wide range of social arrangements?

Finally, you also have to factor in whether they go out of fashion too quickly. For example, if you bought men's cool socks with Mitt Romney's image on them, chances are, they went out of fashion at the end of the election cycle of the year 2012. Do you see where I'm coming from?

Personal Considerations

Now that you've gotten all the practical considerations out of the way, don't neglect personal considerations. You have to understand that everything about you, from your hairstyle, your choice of clothing, the shoes on your feet, even to the restaurants you go to, are reflections of your personal values. Ultimately, they all go back to your character.

Understand the connection because you might think that you're just buying men's cool socks that look exactly like your buddy's socks, but eventually, you would see that they don't fit you. You would see that they don't match your personality.

They don't match your particular sense of style, they don't match your values and priorities, so you keep them in your wardrobe, and they stay there for years on end until you decide to chuck them out by giving them to charity.

Too bad because if you were to gather all such neglected pieces of clothing and accessories, you'd be surprised as to how many thousands of dollars you flush down the toilet.

Look Past Brand

A lot of guy's eyes glaze over the moment they are confronted with well-known and respected brands. There are lots of men's design fashion houses out there that command a tremendous amount of respect.

Brands like Versace, Emporio Armani, Calvin Klein and of course, Ralph Lauren, don't need an explanation. In fact, they are so well respected that a lot of guys give them the benefit of the doubt.

Don't do this. Just because a piece of clothing has the right label, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is the right piece of clothing for you. Look past the brand. Pay attention to practical considerations and the personal selection criteria that I've listed above. Make it fit your personality and your style.

Look Past Prestigious Materials

If you come across socks that are made mostly out of silk, it's very easy for you to just go on autopilot. Seriously.

I've seen this a million times before. Guys think that if an item of clothing is made out of a prestigious material like silk, they automatically think that it is a quality item. As a result, they automatically think that it would look good on them.

Absolutely wrong. Unless you're some sort of pimp that waltzes around in all-gold, silk thread outfits, be more mindful of the design as well as practical and personal considerations listed above.
